Travel doesn't stop for nursing moms on the go as families and women traverse the globe for fun or work. US airports in general are among the busiest in the world and women flying with kids need to know where to go when they arrive in a new location, to express milk or breastfeed their babies. When scoping out a baby care room or nursing pod make sure there is privacy, a source of water near by, a place to sit, a location to rest your personal items and enough space for you and baby.
Most major US airports will have everything you need, however they vary in terms of quality and location in the airport. You are welcome to rate and add locations on Moms Pump Here, like the ones below, that happen to be the three busiest airports accessed by moms in North America.
1. Hartsfield Jackson - ATL, Atlanta, GA
Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport in College Park, Georgia is not just consistently the busiest airport in the United States, but also the world. Because the airport is so large in square footage, there's much to say about many points of interest for traveling moms on the go here, but we'll cover the most critical points where you can stop and decompress, or stop and go with your kids.
Endless streams of traveling nursing moms come through here with and without their babies. This airport has a lot of lactation spaces. Nine spaces and counting in their six concourses: It includes one new nursing mother's Room, two Minute Suites (the first 30 minutes of use are free, then you pay by the hour after that.), and seven Mamava lactation pods with more amenities like breast pads and wipes. These mobile lactation suites, are sometimes relocated at the airport managements discretion and feedback from traveling moms, but they also strategically add additional units around parts of the airport where moms tend to be more. Since ATL airport is so large, lets hope they opt to add more of these convenient portable pods instead of changing location of existing ones.
The locations for moms to stop in are very spaced out though, and our popular airport mothers room locator receive reviews from some moms who feel there need to be many more portable baby care spaces to accommodate their specific traveling and parenting needs. We do make the airport aware of every mom travelers' need as they're submitted, but have to wait and see if they respond in kind.
Because of the long walking distances from terminal to terminal, there's a lot of moving sidewalks to help our mamas with strollers, luggage and kids. Plenty of other nice built in entertaining distractions along those sidewalks too. As you move along the sidewalk, you'll see exhibits between terminals showing nice photography, 3d sculptures, and short stories about the history of Atlanta.
Locations of Seven lactation pods:
Atlanta International's Mamava lactation stations are situated at the Domestic Terminal West Crossover (pre-security), near gates B5, D34, T7, F5, E Centerpoint (post-security) and F arrivals (International). These lactation suites are a welcome stop for traveling moms who need a moment to decompress and nurse their babies or express milk to feed later.
We don't know of any other airport that has held the top spot as number 1 busiest for so many years. Hartsfield-Jackson just keeps on setting that record and probably will for the foreseeable future of flying moms and other passengers.
