WooHoo! If a nursing mom at Super Bowl LII in 2018 needs to nurse or pump when she’s in Minneapolis, there will be a lactation suite available. This would make the Minnesota Vikings the first NFL franchise to provide lactation suites in an NFL Stadium.
...Nursing mothers traveling, working, or residing in Illinois got a big boost from Governor Bruce Rauner this week when he endorsed the law which requires all large airports (listed in our airport nursing rooms locator) to create or add breastfeeding rooms by 2017.
...A woman breastfeeding her child was recently asked to “do it in the bathroom” when she was approached by personnel from Parrot Island Water Park in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
...I think we’ve all been there. Your waitress has just brought your food to the table, you’re about to take your first bite, and a young family sits down in the booth next to yours. Their toddler bumps your seat, reaches for your side of the booth, or is just plain noisy during the meal.
...Support for breastfeeding women is certainly growing. This week, a note on Facebook by the group “Breastfeeding Mama Talk” has sparked even more interest by showing the support breastfeeding women receive from retailer giant Target.
...“Find the Pony” is a phrase I say a lot. It comes from a story I had first heard when I was in college and I immediately applied its meaning to many pieces of my life. Now, almost 20 years later, I still find ways to apply it to my life and the lives of the little boys I am raising.
...I’ve almost always kept my breast milk with me when I traveled, whether the travel was for work or for pleasure. Some of my friends asked me why I didn’t ship it and I answered that I didn’t carry so much milk with me that I needed to ship it separately. A few friends in my industry would ship their milk back to their spouse or caregivers when they were on long trips because their babies preferred fresh milk over frozen milk. Some of these friends told me they had submitted the cost of the dry ice shipment as a T&E disbursement because it would be considered a “business expense”.
...A study published in the August issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology shows another positive side to breastfeeding: healthier-looking arteries later in life.
...Last week on Moms Pump Here, we talked about the five reactions many women receive when asking for a place to pump milk when they’re away from their babies. Last month, Assistant Public Defender Marissa Glatzer was representing a client in a DUI trial in Miami and she received response #2:
...As a mom who has used my pump in lots of great and not-so-great places and also nursed in mostly great places - I have encountered many different reactions to the question, "Do you have a place where I can use my breast pump?". Here are five - notice I'm not saying "Top 5" or "Worst 5" - there's a good mix in this list!
...Lazy days with nothing to do - this is what summertime is supposed to mean. Many of us remember our childhood summers like this. No schedules, no school, no schlepping to and from different events and commitments.
...I must be crazy. If you had told me during any of the 5+ years I have spent pumping or pregnant - that I would ever say I miss using my breast pump, I would say that's a crazy idea. Now, though, as we get ready for summer vacation with all three of my boys home from school - I can say I actually miss pumping.
...Moms Pump Here was born out of necessity. Specifically, the need for women to have a clean, safe, and comfortable place to use their breast pumps - and the idea came to me and to Priya after I had a bad experience looking for a comfortable place while at a trade show at New York City's Jacob Javits Center.
...Two of my close friends recently had their second babies and are asking the question of whether they should return to work or stay home with their families. No one can make that decision for someone else - it has to be what works for you and for your family - but here are three questions I have asked myself when I wasn't sure which path I should choose?
