“Remember that what you do with what happens to you is more important than what happens to you.”
The results of this year’s election are sending shock waves around our world right now. How about in your family and in your home? Many people are feeling many different emotions today – here are some suggested things to do with what’s just happened.
Stay positive. Limit the news and the outlets you are exposed to. Hearing negative information once is tough, but hearing it ten times is torture.
Take care of yourself and your family. Exercise, eat well, and sleep well. Going for a brisk walk with your baby in the stroller, hearing the crisp leaves under your feet, and feeling the cool air on your face can help you refocus.
Be thankful. Is your family healthy? Is your family together? Do you have a warm home to share with your loved ones? These are sometimes taken for granted but when the world outside seems scary, it’s nice to focus on appreciating the smaller things.
Get involved. Be the leader you want your children to follow and learn from. Show your children what they can learn from this world – your values, your beliefs, and your dreams for our world will foster their developing opinions and ambitions. Write letters, attend functions, and show your children that being involved in our world brings the changes that we want to see.
What about you? What are you doing today with what happened yesterday?
