What is the Mother’s Day Tradition in your home? How did you spend Mother’s Day as a child? Did you bring your mom breakfast in bed and hand her your crayon-colored homemade cards? Did you go to visit your grandparents and see your aunts and uncles as a family? Did you go to a special place for brunch to celebrate your mother and how important she is?
My mother loves tulips. There is a Tulip Festival every year on Mother’s Day weekend in Washington Park near Albany, New York and my mother loved to spend Mother’s Day attending the festival as a family. There were beautiful flowers, horse-drawn carriages, and lots of playgrounds for a kid to play in. We went as little kids and then as teenagers, and I know some of her grandchildren have gone with her in recent years. She built such a wonderful tradition for all of us.
When I became a mom, I wondered what tradition I would start for my own family. Should we go to a nearby park in the morning and then see the grandmothers later in the day? We asked some moms about their own family traditions and most preferred simple, easy days. One mom said her gift from her children every year is that they participate in a charity 5K event that is important to their family. Another mom said they like to go to church in the morning and then buy flowers for their garden. Nature-loving moms visit a wildlife center to teach their children more about the world around them. Some moms like to attend a fancy brunch in a restaurant so they won’t need to cook, or they enjoy a museum that hosts a special event celebrating mothers.
As a mom yourself now, how do you choose to spend your special day?
There are many locations listed on MomsPumpHere.com which offer chances for creating Mother's Day Traditions and they have nursing rooms for moms who may need to breastfeed or breast pump.
Perhaps you can create your own new Mother's Day Traditions with your family this year by visiting Storyland in New Hampshire or seeing the sea life at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California. Other exciting places include the Children's Museum of Indianapolis in Indiana or the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago, Illinois. If you're one of our moms in the Florida area, we know you'd love spending time at Biscayne National Park.
However you decide to spend your special day, enjoy the time with your little ones and your family because they are the reasons you are the wonderful mother you are.
Happy Mother's Day week, Moms!
