“…I like to remind myself that my track record for getting through bad days so far is 100%.” A friend of mine shared this quote about doing something she dreads but how she always feel better after she’s finished the bad day because she has gotten through it. I was recently using the same quote to go through some things of my own and I can certainly relate and I know other moms who can see pieces of their bad days in here, too.
As moms, we make lots of decisions and we spend a lot of time questioning those decisions. When we first find out we are pregnant, the questions begin. “Should I find a different doctor? Should I research the pre-natal vitamins longer before I decide? Where will the baby sleep? What should I put on my registry? What should we name the baby?
These sound like such simple questions with simple answers. But, as a mom, you know we can overthink a lot of them.
When my friend shared this quote, though, I thought about it differently. I had some upcoming decisions to think about and I was stressing trying to find the right answers. Then I realized I’ve made some thousands of decisions as a mom to this point and I realized most of them were good.
They haven’t all been the best decisions, such as the choice to let toddlers play in the pantry while I made dinner – which turned into a ground-coffee-spread-all-over-the-kitchen-living-room-dining-room-and-in-every-possible-crevice-of-my-home.
They haven’t all been the worst decisions, either. And even if they were not the best choices, my life was better because I learned from the choices I made. I learned a lot from my first son and I could take that “bad” decision and turn it around and learn how to better handle the situation with my younger children.
So with some tough decisions coming across my lap, the quote was perfect timing. I just changed it a little bit. I’d consider my track record for making appropriate decisions is 100% - They might not have been 100% the best decisions but they’ve brought me to where my family and I are today and that’s a wonderful place. I’ll take that track record and feed my confidence knowing that just getting through my decision-making is 100% and I’ll call that a success.
