Breast milk contains molecules that fight inflammation.
This information comes from a study published earlier this month in the Journal of Mucosal Immunology. Researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) found molecules called Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators (SPMs) and they can help improve immune response, decrease inflammation, protect organs and help to clear bacteria.
Charles Serhan, Director of BWH’s Center for Experimental Therapeutics and Reperfusion, says these findings “add to our understanding of the benefits of breast milk” but also adds that more research is needed.
